It seems like an eternity since my last blog entry. I haven't fallen of the face of the earth, nor have I given up on the sport. On the contrary, I have been participating more than ever.
This was my first season as a parent of a travel hockey player. We started in Sept and finished in March. Chicago, Waterloo, Cedar Rapids, Kansas City & Stevens Point Wisconsin were some of our tourney locations. It was a great season and a great time.
Due to my kid's schedule, I decided to not play in the Fall League. I thought I would be too busy and figured I wouldn't miss playing for 1 session. Wrong. Mid-way through I joined Cup O Insurance for Wednesday night and since that wasn't enough, also Coke/YDD on Sundays. Oh yeah...and I was in the Iowa Chops League down at Wells Fargo too.
We also hosted a big New Years Day "Winter Classic" party at Bucs Arena. Approx 25 players along with their spouses, family & friends came out to see the Red Wings Vs. Blackhawk matchup and then we followed that up by playing our own "Classic" immediately after.
Next on to the Cupid Cup 3 on3 Tourney. Another successful event ran by Big "D" at Bucs Arena in true Alien Tradition. Great turnout, good pizza & beer & plenty of hockey for everyone.
So now that Summer is here is finally good to take a break. Wrong again. I'm coaching a Mite AAA team this summer with a few other adult league regulars. A. Lowell, D. Miller, S. Bast & cousin Mikey all working with a group of 8 & unders taking them to a few Summer Tourneys.
Oh yeah, and Lowell & I are also running an 8 week clinic for kids every Monday starting Mid-April. (With the help of Mr. Marty Wilford.)
So with all this going on (along with both my kids playing baseball), there is no time to adult league this summer....well maybe a little. With Mr. Hickey's direction, a 4 team C League at Bucs was formed for the Spring/Summer. Tons of great players & attitudes to look forward to this year!
So Its time to start blogging again and getting everyone focused back on hockey in Des Moines. There have been alot of great things going on, so stayed tuned!
