Fall / Winter Adult Registrations

We finally have it!

If you are looking to play this Fall / Winter in the C or D league, you can begin getting your team together or register as an individual.

The form with all info is available at at our site (of course).
http://www.alienhockey.com/fallcd2007league.pdf

In brief summary, this will be the biggest & best C & D league ever. Based on feedback and interest, we are anticipating 10 C league teams. This requires us to play on 2 nights. 4 teams will play on Sunday and 6 teams will play on Wednesdays. You will only play on your designated night.

We have added Paid Refs to insure order as well as substitution & roster rules to make sure the league is fair & competitive.

Please spread the word to your friends, teammates, etc and lets get this league going!

Adult Travel Hockey ???

Why should kids have all the fun of playing travel hockey? They get to go away for a weekend, stay at hotels, eat out, hang with friends and play hockey. Sound like a great life right?

I had the opportunity to play in an Adult Tournament in Davenport, IA just a few months ago and had a blast. Hanging out with other hockey players, socializing, telling stories, etc. Although most of us have other responsibilities (aka jobs), we cannot do this every weekend, but adults need to take advantage of tournaments that are put on all over the country.

A group of us has already gotten together to register for a recreational tournament in Las Vegas. Approx 12 of us will be heading out in April next year representing Des Moines, IA in a 4 day tourney that guarantees 4 games and alot of fun. After all, it is Las Vegas.

I have had many other players ask about this event and although our team is full, there is no reason why others cannot form teams for this event or any other event. Some of the places that host these can be found at:
http://www.gsvhockey.com/
http://www.chehockey.com/
http://www.icehockeytournaments.com/adult-tourneys.htm

They will place your team into a level that will make it fun and competitive.

So grab a group of your friends, get some practice ice time and go for a hockey getaway with friends!

Improve Your Skills

Many ask what they can do to improve their hockey skills on their own without camps or formal instruction. There are many training aids that can help. Some of these include videos.

Check out this video from Skinner Hockey.

Youth Hockey Kick Off Day

On Saturday, August 4th, Des Moines Youth Hockey is having their "Sign Up Celebration". The event runs 10-4 and their will be a variety of on ice activities throughout the day. Check out DMYHA.com for info as to times of the on ice activities.

Also, we will be running a sale of the Hockey Garage merchandise. These are tiems that have been donated by players and families that kids have outgrown. All proceeds go back to youth hockey. If you have any stuff lying around your house you are looking to get rid of, drop it off at Alien Hockey PRIOR to the August 4th date.

We need current hockey familes to spread the word to others that may be interested. DMYHA has sent out mailings and emails about this date, but it only reaches those that have been involved in hockey. We all need to be recruiters of the sport to our neighbors & friends.

If you have any questions, please contact us at 515-440-3456

Getting Info about Hockey Programs

I hear many players, parents & fans stating that getting information about hockey programs, teams, schedules, etc is very difficult. As a hockey player & parent, I understand the importance of getting this info for planning purposes.

I am doing what I can to get information out to everyone regarding hockey activities. Here are some things we are currently doing or working on to help communicate to the hockey community.

Blog-this blog will be a way to get info out quickly. I will update as often as possible once I hear of important information.

Website- www.alienhockey.com - Our site will list events, registrations, dates and schedules as they become available. Look here for info on camps, clinics & leagues as well. The blog will be update more frequently simply because it is easier to use, but we try and update our site with as much as possible. Check here regularly.

Twitter - If you are looking for updates on Pay & Play or Stick & Puck opportunities, sign up for twitter through our website. This allows you to get instant messages via email, your cell phone or Messenger Service. There are times when pay & plays pop up last minute and this is a way to communicate this out quickly.

Our Store - Call us or stop by for info. We have registrations forms for most events and can possibly answer questions. If we can't, we may be able to forward you to the correct person.

In the end, people want information quickly and easily. We are doing what we can to get this info out. We do need YOUR help as well. If you know of something happening, let us know. You can email us at service@alienhockey.com. We also ask for you to spread the word about the above mentioned communication methods. The more people that know about our website, Twitter, the blog & our store, the more effective our communication will be.

Summer Hockey & Updates

We are in the middle of Summer and hockey is stronger than ever! With 3 levels of adult hockey going on, there is a place for every player. Our D League boasts 6 teams and we are at approx 50 registered players. This league has only grown because of all the current players commitment and their recruiting efforts. Make sure you continue to pass on the word about this "developmental" league to friends, neighbors & co-workers.

On August 4th, Des Moines Youth Hockey is having their registration Kick-Off Day. You will be able to register your child & receive info on the fall/winter season.

Don't forget to support & attend the rinks activities which include public skate, stick & puck and Pay & Plays. These will only continue if there is enough demand to justify having them. A great example is Friday Morning Breakfast Hockey. Brian from the rink & I thought we'd give it a try and have had great success.

Being new to blogging, I will attempt to update often to keep players, parents & fans informed on all hockey related activities. Feel free to share your comments and input as to what you would like to see.

First Blog EVER!

I've never done a blog before, but this may be an interesting way of communicating info to the hockey community in Des Moines.
