State of Hockey 2009

With the close of 2008 comes many great memories. The closing of Alien Hockey was a sad event, but hopefully everyone looks ahead to 2009 and continues supporting this great sport. Here are some of my thoughts regarding 2008 & 2009.
In the tradition of seeing the great players hang it up, I decided to leave the game after the Summer of 2008. But in the footsteps of the truly great ones( Michael Jordan, Mario Lemiuex, etc.), I have decided to come out of retirement. At this time, it has not been determined where I will fit in and on what team. It is unlikely that I will play with the Alien Vegas Team, as they have replaced my spot with superstar defenseman Brendan McCallum. As a sign of respect to the retired #66, I will not wear this number anymore. Instead, I have swapped the digits and will now wear #66. More to come.

Predictions to make a comeback. I have received endless emails begging that I make the odds line again for league play. It is no coincidence that when I stopped making the predictions, the entire US economy began to fall apart. I will begin my predictions again in January, so those needing to make money can do so in confidence. My first prediction is that whatever team I join, will win the C League Championship.

We had some great 3 on 3 tourneys in 2008. With A Cupid Cup, Chops 3 on 3 Tourney and a Turkey Tourney, I hope to help coordinate others as well. Be on the lookout for more in 2009. The Chops League has been a huge success as well. With a great group of players, great atmosphere and support of the Iowa Chops, we have put together a fantastic short season that all have enjoyed. Our hope is to make it even better the next time.

Skate sharpening is taking a new direction. At this time, I have helped Tony Hansen learn the finer points of skate sharpening. He is taking my place in doing skates. Currently, Tony will sharpen twice per week (Tues & Thurs). Watch the PS Sports Zone website for updates if this changes, or call them at 515-334-5220.

Lastly, with the new year, I hope to keep the blog more updated and done more regular. Please spread the word to others so that may enjoy it as well. Make sure you leave comments on the articles so others know your opinions...it makes it all the more fun.
Here's to the Blackhawks winning the Winter Classic, the Stanley Cup & Joe's team the Boulevard Keg!

Still Kids at Heart

Kids look up to Pro hockey players. As adults, we admire the great ones and wish we could play like them. We may not go autograph hunting like the youngsters do, but occasionally even we adults get excited about a past star.

Mike & I got lucky enough to meet not only a hockey great, but also a Chicago Blackhawk great. Pictured is Dennis Savard (Hall of Fame 2000) with Mike & I.

At a hockey tourney in Chicago for my kid over the Thanksgiving weekend, Mr. Savard was there signing autographs and helping raise money for their youth hockey program.

We got a big kick out of meeting him as he was just like one of the guys. It was even cool when Mikey decided it would be nice to give Savard some advice on how to be a better a player, and Savard politely said "Security...please remove this fine fellow." What a great sport!
